Two players from Mumbai were famous in the cricketing circles over the last one month – Prithvi Shaw and Jemimah Rodrigues. The young prodigy Prithvi Shaw, who turned 18 recently, set Ranji Trophy on fire with his stroke play while the 17-year-old Mumbai skipper Jemimah scored century after century during the Inter-State Women’s U19 One-Day Competition. She amassed a total of 1013 runs across 11 games in this tournament as her team ended as runners-up after losing to Andhra at the final step.

It was a season to remember for Jemimah Rodrigues as she struck as many as six hundreds in the ten innings which includes two scores of 150+ and a double century. She started her season with a 175 in their first game against Gujarat and struck an unbeaten 202 against Saurashtra. Her scores of 202* and 175 stand only behind Smriti Mandhana’s 224* in the Women’s Under-19s One-Day games on Indian soil. Mandhana recorded the double ton for Maharashtra in the 2013/14 season.

Jemimah Rodrigues’ performances in the tournament:

What makes special about Jemimah’s stupendous season is that the 2nd highest run-getter in the tournament, Uttar Pradesh’s Ekta has 472 runs in nine innings. In fact, she sparkled with the ball as well by picking up 19 wickets including two four-wicket hauls. The tournament made news for the appearance of the North-East states which recorded extremes in lowest totals and conceding runs but Rodrigues’ runs came against the big teams only. Mumbai ended on losing side in two of the three games in which she failed to put on a fifty-plus score. In one of those games, Jemimah led the team from the front with a 4-wicket haul.

In Ranji Trophy, Karnataka’s Mayank Agarwal scored 1033 runs in November month to set records in first-class cricket while Jemimah too scored all her 1013 runs in the November month only. The Mumbai U19 skipper now holds the record for most runs in a Women’s U19 tournament breaking Smriti Mandhana’s 821-run effort in 2013/14. Jemimah also scored 665 runs in the last season which was then the 2nd best after Mandhana’s 821.

Most runs in a Women’s U19 One-Day Competition:

Considering the runs Mandhana made in the Inter-Zonal Tournament during the 2013/14 season, she aggregated a total of 1057 runs in that season. Other than Mandhana in 2013/14 and Jemimah in 2016/17 and 2017/18, no other player managed to score more than 550 runs in a single season in Women’s U19 One-Day games.
