Stats: Mohammad Amir claims top spot for most Tests to take a catch
When one talks about the CV of Mohammad Amir in Test cricket, it is filled with nothing but surprises. Of course, one most definitely commends his comeback abilities coupled with some impressive performances in recent times. However, the 24-year old has an unwanted record on that list of stats that he holds in distinctive and high regard.
The 24-year old southpaw has taken 20 matches to complete his first Test match catch, something that will certainly stand out but it will also be one Mohammad Amir will be keen to forget. On the bright side, as far as Amir is concerned, it would be the fact that he finally has a Test match catch and has got the monkey off his back.
Amir broke the record held by former England player Geoff Pullar who had taken 18 matches to claim his first catch. Australian speedster Glenn McGrath was the one after Pullar who had taken his first 16 matches before completing the catch that broke the hoodoo. Amir’s compatriot Mohammad Sami is tied in third place with McGrath having taken 16 matches to do the same.
West Indies pacer Jerome Taylor finds himself on the bottom of that list having taken 12 matches to complete the feat. However, to be fair to Taylor, he took a hiatus for 3 years from playing cricket for the West Indies.

However, apart from the fact that Mohammad Amir has set the record, he took a blinder of a catch to break the record. Diving away to his right, this was one catch that stuck in the left-armer’s grasp, something that he was certainly happy with. After the conclusion of the first day’s play, Pakistan finds themselves on the brink of taking yet another lead following a minor collapse in the first session’s play.
