Stats: MS Dhoni completes 12000 runs in List A cricket
He became only the 6th Indian and the 48th player overall to score 12k runs in the List A cricket.
While breaking a few records in International cricket during his unbeaten knock of 78 against Windies, MS Dhoni did make into an elite list of batsmen in List A format as well. With the first six of his innings, Dhoni moved from his individual score of 53 to 59 to complete 12000 runs in his List A career. Thus he became only the 6th Indian and the 48th player overall to score 12k runs in the List A cricket.
A total of 99 players have aggregated over 10000 runs in List A matches with seven of them being Indian players. Sachin Tendulkar is the highest run-getter among Indian cricketers in this format with 21999 runs; the only Indian to score over 20000 List A runs. In fact, Sachin stands among the top three run-scorers in this format as he is only 212 runs behind the leading run-scorer, Graham Gooch’s tally.
Dhoni’s fifty in this game was his 94th fifty-plus score in List A format and could as well join a rare list of players with 100 or more fifty-plus scores in this format. Yuvraj Singh, who also featured in the Windies-India 3rd ODI was the last Indian to complete 12 thousand runs in List A format before Dhoni. Yuvraj, who completed his milestone during the Vijay Hazare Trophy in March, currently has 12227 runs in this format, 205 more than Dhoni.
Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli are soon going to complete 10000 runs in their List A careers and join the seven existing Indians in the list. Gambhir so far has scored 9551 runs in this format while the Indian captain, Kohli has 9585 runs. He went past his senior Delhi mate’s tally during the 2nd ODI game of the ongoing Windies-India series.
