Stats: Nine Maldives Women bag ducks in side's total of 8/10 in the 2019 South Asian Games
Maldives Women were bowled out for only 8 in the Bronze Medal game against Nepal Women.
Maldives Women’s horror time in the 2019 South Asian Games came to an end as they finished last among the four teams taking part of the tournament. The Maldives Women aggregated as few as 60 runs in the four matches they played in the Cricket event of the SAG. In the first match of the tournament, they were rolled over for just 16 runs against Nepal Women who chased down the target in only five deliveries. In the following matches, Maldives Women faced the U23 sides from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh against whom they suffered defeats by 249 runs.
Sri Lanka posted 279/2 and in reply, the Maldives posted only 30; their highest total of the tournament. Against Bangladesh, they were bowled out for only 6 runs after conceding 255/2. Fortunately, both those matches didn’t have official T20I status. However, in the Bronze Medal match, Maldives were bowled out for only 8 runs on Saturday against Nepal. Both the matches against Nepal Women had official T20I leaving the Women’s team from the Maldives bagging embarrassing feats.
Their total of 8 is the 2nd lowest ever total in the T20I format across Men’s and Women’s cricket. The lowest is 6 by Mali Women during this year’s game against Rwanda Women. There have been nine totals below 20 runs in the T20I format; all those nine recorded in the Women’s cricket only. Out of the eight runs, only one run came off the bat while the remaining seven runs came via wides. Opener Aima Aishath scored the lone run in the 3rd over on the 11th ball she faced.
The first over bowled by Kabita Kunwar yielded six wides. Anjali Chand, who made her T20I debut in this tournament recorded the best ever T20I figures of 6/0 in the opening match. Anjali added four wickets to her tally as she finished with figures of 4-3-1-4. The Maldives Women lost their last six wickets at the score of 8. As many as 9 players got out for a duck barring Aima Aishath who scored a run and No.11 batsman Shamma Ali who remained unbeaten on 0.
