Pakistan succumbed to a shock defeat at the hands of West Indies in the 2nd Test of the 3-match series. Chasing an innocuous target of 188, Pakistan’s chase was jolted severely as Shanon Gabriel (5/11) rocketed through their batting-line to dismiss them for just 81 in the fourth innings of the Test.

Pakistan were always ahead in the Test match until the last inning. They won a lead of 81 runs in the first innings as they were posted 393 in the first knock. West Indies, led by a rearguard innings of 90 by Shai Hope, managed to score 268 in their second innings even when Yasir Shah conjured a magical spell of 7/94.

Needing 188 to win their first ever Test series in the West Indies, Pakistan had no answer to the hostile pace bowling of Gabriel, Holder and Joseph as they ran through the top order to leave them reeling at 36/7. A 42-run 8th wicket stand between Sarfraz Ahmed and Mohammad Amir resurrected some hopes till Gabriel ran through the tail to hand Pakistan a 106-run defeat.

In the course of the Test match, Misbah registered an unwanted record. He batted tremendously well but missed out a Test hundred as he was dismissed for 99 by his opposite number Holder. The 42-year old was dismissed without scoring in the second innings by Gabriel making him the fourth Pakistani batsman to register a score of 90 plus and 0 in the same Test match.

Mohammed Yousuf was the last batsman from the country to have registered 0 and 97 against India at Karachi in 2006. The other two batsmen are Shahid Afridi and Mushtaq Mohammad who both did it against England in 2005 and 1973 respectively.

Here is the list of Pakistan batsmen who have scored a 90 and duck in a Test:

No Player Runs Inns Opposition Ground
1 Mushtaq Mohammad 99 1 v England Karachi
Mushtaq Mohammad 0 3 v England Karachi
2 Shahid Afridi 92 1 v England Faisalabad

Mohammad Yousuf 97 3 v India Karachi
4 Misbah-ul-Haq 99 2 v West Indies Bridgetown

Incidentally, he was only the second Pakistani batsman to record a score of 99 and 0 in the same Test match with the other one being Mushtaq Mohammad who secured identical scores against England in 1973.
