The Pakistan team continued their golden run in limited-overs cricket as they defeated Sri Lanka in a close encounter at Abu Dhabi to clinch the 3-match T20I series with one game to be played. A six down the ground over the bowler’s head in the final over from Shadab Khan helped Pakistan wrap up the T20I series with a game to be played in Lahore, where the home team will look to clean sweep the Lankans like they did in the 5-match ODI series prior to this.

In the past 15-20 months, Pakistan lost the ODI series in England and Australia but went on to stun the world by crushing India in the Champions Trophy final to clinch this ICC event for the first time. On the same tour, Pakistan won one-off T20I in England, home and away T20I series against Windies and the Independence Cup against World XI for the revival of International cricket in Pakistan, all in a row. Thus, by winning this series against Sri Lanka, Pakistan have emerged as the first ever team to win five consecutive bilateral series in T20I cricket.

Between 2008 and 2009, they won four consecutive bilateral series to become the first team to achieve the feat. After them, four teams won four consecutive bilateral T20I series but none before Pakistan managed to convert it to five consecutive series wins.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, suffered their 15th successive loss in limited-overs cricket. In their last 20 International matches, Lankans have lost 17 matches and won only three. The 2nd T20I against Pakistan was their 33rd loss in International cricket in 2017 with which the Island team broke Zimbabwe’s record of most International losses in a year which they created in 2015 with 32 losses. Sri Lanka will play one more T20I against the Men in Green and nine matches across formats against India in 2017, the opposition they lost all ten games to at home earlier this year.
