Stats: Prithvi Shaw – Too good for his age
Here we look at the stats and numbers from Prithvi Shaw’s eminent first-class career.
Being in the news isn’t new for Prithvi Shaw who grabbed the eyeballs in the Mumbai cricket circle as early as ten with his stroke play and consistent scores. He hogged the headlines on the newspapers, television and all over social media when he played the knock of 546 in the Harris Shield match which was an India record in 2013. Shaw did justify his talent as he grew up and made it to Mumbai senior team, the Indian U19 team as captain and eventually the Indian Test squad.
Here we look at the stats and numbers from Prithvi Shaw’s eminent first-class career:
2 – Prithvi Shaw scored two hundreds in four FC games while playing for India A. He scored 188 against Windies ‘A’ in England and followed it with a 136 against South Africa ‘A’ in India. He and Ambati Rayudu are the only players have scored more than one century for India ‘A’ in first-class cricket in their teens.
4 – Prithvi has scored four centuries in the Ranji Trophy thus far. His 4th ton came a week after his 18th birthday while his 3rd Ranji ton was recorded a week before entering into the 18th year. Prithvi’s three 100s before turning 18 is the joint-most along with Abhinav Mukund and Ambati Rayudu but in the list of most Ranji centuries before 19th birthday, Shaw (4) comes joint second behind Mukund (6).
7 – Number of centuries Shaw has scored in his short 14-match first-class career. Among Indians, only Sachin Tendulkar (9) scored more centuries before turning 19. He leapfrogged the likes of Ambati Rayudu and Abhinav Mukund who have six FC tons as teenagers.
18y 269d – Prithvi Shaw was 18 years and 269 days when he scored 136 on the 2nd day of the unofficial Test against South Africa A. With that ton, he now has centuries in all four innings in first-class cricket and is the 4th youngest to scale this achievement.
Sachin Tendulkar was 17 years and 360 days old when he completed this set and is the only player till date to have done that before turning 17. A total of six players have scored centuries in all four innings in first-class cricket thus far and only Sachin and Prithvi are the two Indians.
50 – Prithvi averages over 50 in first-class cricket for all the four teams he has represented thus far. He scored 406 runs in four games at an average of 58 for India A and 776 runs at 51.73 for his state team Mumbai. Prithvi also averages 92.5 and 51 respectively for India Red and the Rest of India in the only FC game he featured in.
