Stats: Rohit Sharma features in his fifth Asia Cup for India

Rohit Sharma might have turned consistent in International cricket only from 2013 but he has been around the Indian team since 2007. The vice-captain of the limited-overs squads has been handed the responsibility to lead the team in the Asia Cup 2018 in the absence of Virat Kohli. Rohit will be leading his troops for the first time in Asia Cup after playing all the editions since the start of 2008.

The current tournament is the fifth edition of the Asia Cup in which Rohit Sharma made an appearance. Thus, he became only the third Indian to feature in as many as five tournaments. Sachin Tendulkar played in six editions; the most by any Indian player. Former skipper Mohammad Azharuddin also appeared five times in the tussle between the Asian teams. MS Dhoni featured in only four editions having missed out in 2014 after picking up an injury prior to the tournament.

Indians to feature in the most number of Asia Cup editions:

Including the only T20I edition of Asia Cup played in 2016, Dhoni has been a part of five editions of the Asia Cup making him one of the four Indians to feature in as many as five of them. Rohit was also part of the Asia Cup T20, as a result, he joins Sachin to play as many as six editions of the Asia Cup for India. Unlike him, Sachin did not feature in six straight Asia Cup editions as he didn’t play in 2008 and 2010 before the 2012 season marked to be his last appearance in the ODI format.

Indians to feature in the most number of Asia Cup editions (ODI + T20I):

A total of eight players before Rohit has featured in six consecutive Asia Cup editions (ODI + T20I). Sri Lanka’s Aravinda de Silva featured in first seven edition of the tournament. The Sri Lankan holds the record for featuring in the most number of Asia Cup editions. Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi also featured in seven of them including the 2016 Asia Cup T20. Bangladesh’s Mahmudullah, Mashrafe Mortaza and Mushfiqur Rahim also featured in last six Asia Cup (ODI + T20I) editions like Rohit.
