Can Indian team extend their super impressive home Test record in this decade too?
India, who has been performing brilliantly in the whites under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, has been a dominant force in home Tests since the last 10 years or so. The team has hosted 19 Test series since 2010 and has won staggering 17 series, losing just one against Alastair Cook-led England side in 2012. The first series of the year 2010 with South Africa was drawn. Team India has the best winning percentage of 73% in their own backyard in this period. Australia is the second team with 65% wins behind India.
In fact, India has now won 13 back-to-back series since losing that four-match series 1-2 against England in the year 2012. Such has been India’s dominance in home tests that they have achieved 5 Test maces in this 11 years time. Team also went on to play the first-ever World Test Championship final with New Zealand this June, where they suffered an eight-wicket defeat against eventual champions New Zealand.
The first mace for India was won by the country’s most successful captain, MS Dhoni. Skipper Dhoni bagged the mace in the year 2010 itself. Though India’s away record under the leadership of Dhoni was questioned, the team did manage to keep their home record intact as they have tasted success 40 out of 55 times. Only 5 times India suffered a loss while 10 clashes were drawn. South Africa are third in this list, having won 33 out of 53 Tests at home. Their winning percentage is 62% being only one of three teams having over 60 percent wins.
England and New Zealand have same percentage of home wins
India’s new rivals in limited-overs setup, England and the Kiwis have exactly same 57% of home wins in the longest format of the game. The Island nation, Sri Lanka has 40% wins in their home Tests while West Indies team has achieved only 33% wins in the Caribbean. Team India look in no mood to spoil this record as they look a completely formidable side when they play on their home soil. They would like to keep on winning and keep this terrific record intact.
