Stats: Virat Kohli scores fifties in both innings of the Nottingham Test
This was the 9th time in 69 Test matches that Virat Kohli has scored 50 and more runs in both innings of a Test.
Virat Kohli has put his team on the driver seat by scoring fifties in both the innings of the Trent Bridge Test match after the Indians bowled England out cheaply in the first innings. The Indian skipper scored 97 in the first innings before the getting out in the 90s only the 2nd time in his Test career. Kohli scored his 2nd fifty of the game and shared a century stand with Cheteshwar Pujara to take India’s lead past 350.
This was the 9th time in 69 Test matches that Virat Kohli has scored 50 and more runs in both innings of a Test match. The first of his nine instances was in the Mumbai Test match against Windies in 2011 where Kohli got to his maiden fifty in this format. He had twin scores of 50+ on two occasions during the 2014/15 tour of Australia that includes the Adelaide Test where he composed centuries in both innings but ended up on the losing side.

Five of the nine instances, where Kohli scored twin fifty-plus scores in a Test, was as captain including the one in the first Test match of the ongoing series at Edgbaston. He thus surpassed MS Dhoni (4) in the list of Indian captains with 50+ scores in both innings of four different Tests. Overall, only Rahul Dravid among Indian players had recorded more instances of 50+ scores in both innings of a Test.
Dravid had ten instances of twin fifty-plus scores in Test cricket but played 95 Tests more than Kohli. The current Indian captain is levelled with three other players in this list of Indian. The likes of Sunil Gavaskar, VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar all had scored 50+ runs in both innings of a Test match on nine different occasions. Gavaskar and Laxman played fifty additional Tests while Tendulkar featured in nearly three times the number of Tests that Kohli has featured in thus far.
