Stats: Worst bowling figures registered in an ODI game
The biggest victim of Rohit Sharma's onslaught was Nuwan Pradeep, who etched his name into a very unenviable list.
No individual loves to register diabolical bowling figures by conceding humongous amount of runs and letting the team down on the day. But in the One-Day format, no matter how brilliant you are, there is a good scope for you to get clobbered to all parts and leak runs. Given there is a flat track available for the batters, it gets all the more difficult to resist the flooding runs.
Something similar happened in Mohali on Wednesday as Rohit Sharma powered his way towards a third ODI double ton, an astronomical and insane feat achieved by no other individual in List-A history. One’s pain is another’s gain and the ones who suffered fatally in this carnage at the PCA Stadium, Mohali, are the Sri Lankan bowlers, the same ones who ripped the Indian lineup apart in the previous game.
Poor tactics from the Lankan bowlers
They had very little assistance from the pitch and it all pounded hard on their morale. But to blame the pitch would be entirely wrong on their part as Lakmal, Nuwan Pradeep and the rest kept bowling the same, ineffective channels. Rohit Sharma was being served all the tasty dishes and he gracefully accepted everything that came his way.
The biggest victim of this onslaught was Nuwan Pradeep, who etched his name into a very unenviable list. He conceded a whopping 106 runs without picking up any wickets. These figures are the third joint worst bowling figures registered by a bowler in International cricket alongside Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Mick Lewis, the Australian fast bowler who had a very short career, never played an International match after that immortal game at the Johannesburg, where South Africa chased down 435. He conceded 113 runs in 10 overs and since the last 11 years, he has been topping this list.
Some other big names in the list are Wahab Riaz and Tim Southee, who usually are brilliant for their side. Windies Test skipper Jason Holder was tormented by AB de Villiers at Sydney, which led to him conceding 104 runs in 10 overs. Barring Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the other Indian on the list is Vinay Kumar, who gave away 102 runs in the game against Australia in 2013 at Bangalore, where Rohit scored the first of his three double centuries.
Here’s the list of all the bowlers who conceded over 100 runs in a 10 or fewer overs’ spell.
