Tim Bresnan recorded one of the best bowling performances during the NatWest T20 Blast game against Lancashire by taking 6/19 in his 4 overs and starred in his team’s win. Bresnan, who led the Yorkshire side elected to bat first after winning the toss. His side ended up with 182/7 despite scoring 95 in first 8 overs. In reply, Lancashire were bowled out for 163 with Bresnan having a part in 7 out the 10 wickets.
By virtue of this 6-wicket haul, the England all-rounder became only the 2nd captain in Twenty20 history to take 6 wickets in a game. Shakib Al Hasan picked 6/18 in their Domestic T20 tournament in 2013 against Mohammedan Sports Club while playing for Prime Bank Cricket Club. Shakib bowled 2.4 overs in that game as the opposition were bundled out for just 45 runs in 8.4 overs. He scored an unbeaten 28-ball 57 too while batting in the same game.
Bresnan dismissed the Lancashire openers Liam Livingstone and Karl Brown in his very first over and recorded figures of 2-0-4-2 in his first spell in the powerplay. He returned for his 2nd spell in 18th over and conceded 11 runs in the first 3 balls, but returned strongly to clean up Ryan McLaren. In the 20th over, Bresnan got rid off Dane Vilas and Jordan Clark off consecutive balls.
Though Bresnan couldn’t complete his hat-trick, he affected a run-out on his hat-trick ball and finished with 6 wickets in the game by cleaning up Junaid Khan on the final ball of the innings. Thus Bresnan recorded the first 6-wicket haul for the Yorkshire in Twenty20 cricket.
Prior to Bresnan, only three players picked up 5-wicket hauls for Yorkshire in this format but no one went on to scalp 6 in a game. Bresnan’s figures of 6/19 are the third best for any player in a Twenty20 game in England. His 6-wicket haul is only the 5th in T20s that has been recorded in England.
