Steve Smith, undoubtedly, the batsman of the year in Test cricket. He has entertained every cricket fan with his unorthodox technique and has shattered the barriers of technically sound players holding the edge. There were many fingers pointed at him when he first entered the Australian team. He was there as a leg-spinner who could wield the bat but is now world’s No.1 Test batsman.

He has been crushing oppositions with his bat alone for four straight years now. This man has turned himself into a beast. And all he has to thank for is his hard work and determination. The way he has turned himself from an ordinary lower middle order batter to the best in the business is commendable. Steve Smith recently made history with his performances over the years.

No batsman has ever achieved this feat. He scored yet another century in the Ashes and ended this year with 1305 runs in 20 innings. Smith was the highest run-getting in 2017 surpassing Cheteshwar Pujara. He did it by scoring runs at an average of 76.78. He has been averaging over 70 runs in Test cricket for the last four years.

Not only that, he has been scoring over thousand runs for four straight years. All the Australian fans don’t know what more to expect from their captain, in a good sense. In the year 2014, he scored 1146 runs tallying five centuries at a staggering average of 81.86. 2015 was the year when he accumulated 1474 runs, hitting six centuries while averaging 73.70. In 2016, 1079 runs, four centuries, 71.9 was his average.

2017, well, it was just another year at the office for this man. His stats are worthy of every applause. Smith is the only man in the history of Test cricket to average 70 plus in four consecutive years; jaw-dropping stuff. Australia have unearthed a gem in Steve Smith and he is on his way to becoming a batting legend.
