Steve Smith after being at the very top of the game hit the lowest point in his career that didn’t just earn him a lot of bad name but also got him banned for a year. He has decided to battle the negativity with the biggest support of his life Dani Willis. On Saturday (September 15) the two took the vows and tied the knot in a private ceremony.

They got engaged in 2017 when Smith proposed to Willis on top of the Rockefeller Centre in New York City. The couple has known each other since 2011 and after years of dating decided to commit to one another for life. Their first meeting was at a bar in Sydney during the first season of the Big Bash League and grew from strength to strength with the passage of time.

The former Australian skipper posted a picture of the newlywed on Instagram and announced to the world that he was a married man now. With the image, he wrote: “Today I got to Marry my best friend. What an absolutely incredible day. @dani_willis looked unbelievably beautiful.”

He was extremely happy to have married his best friend and someone who hasn’t just been with him through thick and thin but has given him a lot of strength. After taking over as the captain of the Australian team from Michael Clarke, Steven Smith describing Dani’s impact had said that she’s been amazing and their time together has been terrific.

“She has been amazing. She’s always there for me when I’m around. It’s nice that you have some honest feedback to come home to all the time. She’s been terrific for me over the last few years,” Smith had said.

After the sandpaper gate in South Africa which has had a huge impact on not just Smith’s cricketing career but his psyche, on the whole, there were media reports that the two had broken up. However, they’ve scraped all those claims by making an entry into the married life.

Smith who is currently serving an international and domestic ban is expected to be back in the Australian team for the World Cup 2019 though there is no official confirmation.
