Steve Smith gives an unmissable reaction after David Warner mentions Kohli’s name in his Allan Border Medal speech
The cameras shifted to Steve Smith as Warner took Kohli’s name and the reaction of the former Australian captain was something not to be missed.
Australian opener David Warner was awarded the prestigious Allan Border Medal at the Australian Cricket Awards 2020. This was a huge achievement for the cricketer, who only about two years back was at the centre of one of the most shameful incidents involving Australian cricket when he along with Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft were banned for a year each and nine months respectively for their role in the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa in 2018.
However, he came back strong in the ICC World Cup 2019 and though had a poor Ashes series the same year; Warner scored heavily at home in Test matches against Pakistan and New Zealand, including a triple hundred. This Allan Border medal victory was his third after receiving the medal in 2016 and 2017 as well. In his emotional speech after being felicitated, Warner mentioned a few names including that of Virat Kohli, leading to Steve Smith giving a priceless reaction to the same.
David Warner mentions his daughters’ fondness for Virat Kohli
During the award speech, the left-handed opener thanked the Australian team and people for accepting him back after the sandpaper gate. He thanked his teammates and cricket board for their continuous support and talked about how cricket put smiles on the faces of little kids. He mentioned how his daughters yelled Virat Kohli’s name while playing the game in the backyard.
“I realized a lot of things during that time off that we don’t actually understand or realize when we’re in this bubble, the importance of what this game is and the smiles on the faces that we bring to a lot of people. Having three daughters at home, looking up to guys like ‘Smithy’, ‘Cummo’ — playing cricket in the backyard they’re yelling out Virat Kohli’s name — but these are the smiles on kids’ faces that we put on,” Warner was quoted by cricket.com.au.
Meanwhile, the cameras shifted to Steve Smith as Warner took Kohli’s name and the reaction of the former Australian captain was something not to be missed.

Virat Kohli, who has been critical of Steve Smith on numerous occasions previously for brain fade, sledging and other instances on the field, won hearts of millions when India played Australia in the 2019 ICC World Cup. He asked the Indian fans to stop chanting cheater and not boo Smith and instead asked them to clap for him. Smith later shook hands with Kohli for his gesture in a perfect moment of sportsmanship.
