Steve Smith once again stepped up for the Australian side in the third Test match against the Pakistan outfit. The right-hander scored a patient 59 off 169 deliveries for the Aussies in the first innings of the Lahore Test match, as Australia piled up a total of 391 runs.

Smith has also gone more than 14 months without a century in the whites. And now, Aussie opener Usman Khawaja has opened up on Smith’s form with the bat. The Pakistan-born Khawaja stated that Smith will be frustrated with himself for the lack of three-figure scores.

Khawaja also stated that Smith is the greatest batter that he has seen in his time, and added that the Aussie batting legend has averaged in excess of 60 in his Test career. Khawaja even admitted that he is still in awe of the amount of runs that Smith has scored throughout his career.

“I’m sure he’s frustrated in some respects. He is, in my opinion, the greatest batsman I’ve seen in my era, averaging 60 pretty much his whole Test career. I’m still in awe of how many runs he’s scored over a long period of time,” said Khawaja as quoted by perthnow.com.au.

I find it funny we are talking about Smith not scoring hundreds: Usman Khawaja

Usman Khawaja also added that he finds it funny that there is a lot of talk about Smith not scoring a century, and stated that he has been consistently scoring around the 70-run mark. Adding that Smith is a ‘class’ player, Khawaja concluded by stating that once Smith gets to a big score, the hundreds will start flowing again.

“I find it so funny we’re talking about Steve Smith not scoring 100s, he seems to be getting 70, 80 … and doing it very easily. That’s just the class Steve Smith has. I’m sure once he gets a big score, more big scores (will come). The fact he’s getting those 60s, 70s, he’s looking really good with the bat,” concluded Usman Khawaja.
