Steve Smith rubbishes Kohli's claims on DRS fiasco
Team Australia skipper Steve Smith was pretty direct in brushing aside all the claims made by his counterpart skipper Virat Kohli after the Bengaluru Test. Kohli had alleged that the Aussie skipper tried to seek help from the dressing room regarding the DRS referrals on more than one occasion. The entire scenario dates back to the day 4 of the 2nd Test. Steve Smith was given out by the on-field umpire. Smith had a discussion with Peter Handscomb, the non-striker batsman, on whether he should go for the referral.
Soon, both batsmen were seen looking towards the dressing room. It was just then that Kohli intervened and so did the umpire Nigel Llong. They let the Aussie skipper know that he was violating the DRS laws. After the match, Kohli blasted Smith alleging that the Aussie skipper had done so previously as well. Now, as per the recent reports in Sportskeeda, Smith has rubbished all such claims made by Kohli.
After the Bengaluru Test, he had admitted that he had made a mistake. He stuck by his words and reiterated the same yet again. He noted that it was a brain fade for him when he looked up to the dressing room. However, he disagreed with Kohli’s remarks of him using the same tactics on multiple occasions.
“It was an error on my behalf. I had a brain fade. In regards to saying we do it consistently is complete rubbish in my opinion. So I think he was wrong in his statement,” Steve Smith quoted in a pre-match conference.
Both captains are now scheduled to have a word with match referee ahead of the third Test that commences tomorrow (March 16). Smith remarked that he is ready to answer any question that comes his way regarding the same.
“Perhaps I might be able to ask a few questions. We will see what the mood’s like at the time. Virat obviously stuck by his comments. From my point of view, I think they are completely wrong. I obviously came out after the game and said I made a mistake,” Smith stressed further.
It will be interesting to see how heated the battle goes in the third Test at Ranchi. The series is currently poised evenly balanced at 1-1 with two to play.
