Steve Waugh visits Varanasi to scatter ashes of his deceased friend Brian Rudd

Former Australian World Cup winning captain Steve Waugh paid the last tribute to his friend Brian on Tuesday by visiting Varanasi and scattering his deceased friend’s ashes in the Ganges. It was his friend’s last wish to have his ashes scattered in the Ganges.

“It was a lifetime opportunity for me and I really wanted to visit that city. It has a very spiritual feeling. To have the honour and privilege of scattering the remains of Brian (Rudd), I feel great about it. He had a very tough life and didn’t have a family. His last wish was to have ashes scattered in the Ganges. I am very glad to have done something for him and it was a celebration of his life,” Waugh was quoted as saying by India today.

The former captain also spoke on the DRS saga involving Aussie captain Steve Smith during the 2nd Test against India at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Smith looked at the dressing room for confirmation whether to go for a review or not after getting out in the 2nd innings.

“An apology needed to be made, which, I believe, Smith has made. Smith realises that it was a wrong thing to do and he can’t do that on a cricket field. Everyone knows that when you are under pressure, funny things do happen. Both the captains I thought wanted to unsettle each other because there is lot at stake. Expect that from the best batsman, especially when you are not scoring runs like Virat. He obviously wanted to win the game. At times, one forgets what he is doing in situations like these but that was a mistake and he (Smith) has apologised for that and everyone should move on,”

He further went on to add some major factors which make the Border-Gavaskar Trophy so interesting. “What has happened so far in the series, no one would have been able to predict it. Australia won the first Test by over 300 runs and then controlled the second Test for majority of the period before India came back strongly to win it. These are world class bowlers so it has been two outstanding matches to watch. It’s very hard for the batsmen to have dominated. I expect it to continue like this in the next two matches as well. I think the toss will be very crucial in the next two Tests,” Waugh concluded.
