Streaker invades the pitch during New Zealand-England match in Chester-le-Street
The guards found it tough to stop him.
Streakers in sports are pretty common. They breach all the security at the venues and run around the stadium. The same phenomenon has also been seen during the ongoing World Cup in England and Wales. In one of the matches, a person ran to the middle of the pitch and stole the bails. On July 3, New Zealand and England locked horns in the 41st match of the mega event at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street.
This time around, the scenario was a bit on the violent side. In a video doing the rounds on the social media platforms, a streaker can be seen, dodging the security and trying to make his way on to the playing arena. There were about five guards, who strained hard to catch hold of the streaker, who eventually countered everyone and went towards an English fielder, who looked in utter astonishment.
He was absolutely naked with headgear and was determined to make his way to the pitch. Though the security guards tried hard to get hold of him, taking him down, despite several attempts by most of them, he managed to slip through. At one point they were down on the ground grappling him but the guy still managed to shake them off. He then ran to the pitch, got really close to the New Zealand pair batting in the middle.
He sort of had the moment of his life and even performed a couple of cartwheels before being dragged off by the security. It proved to be one of the most talked about moments of an otherwise dull contest between the hosts and the Blackcaps.
England make their way through to the semis
As far as the game is concerned, the Three Lions won it by a mammoth margin of 119 runs and became the third team after India and Australia to qualify for the semi-final of the mega event. Eoin Morgan won the toss and didn’t have any hesitation to bat first on what seemed to be an excellent batting strip. Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy took their team off to a flying start courtesy of a 123-run partnership.
Bairstow went on to notch back-to-back tons and the hosts amassed 305 for eight in 50 overs. Roy got 60, but the Black Caps pulled things back in the death overs, not allowing the English batters to run away with the match. In their run-chase, the Kiwis batsmen could never get themselves into the ascendancy. England’s bowling turned out to be a tough nut to crack for the opposition.

Barring Tom Latham, who notched a well-crafted 57, there wasn’t much resistance from the New Zealand batting. In the end, the Black Caps folded for 186 in 45 overs. Mark Wood was the most successful bowler with three wickets. Morgan’s men’s semi-final match would either be against India or Australia at the Edgbaston in Birmingham.
