Stuart Broad gives a fitting response to Pakistan journalist over bowling standards in the IPL
Broad indirectly lashed out at a Pakistan journalist who said that Russell is playing as per his fee.
The IPL 2019 has been quite a run feast. Except for a few venues like Chennai and Delhi, the batsmen are enjoying batting at every other venue. Scores in excess of 170 or 180 are being put up with ease and they are being chased down much more easily. Over 400 runs were scored in the last game between RCB and KKR and Stuart Broad thinks that it is due to the conditions that the bowlers are struggling.
After just 17 games in the tournament, 5,750 runs were scored. 3418 runs came from boundaries and the batsmen have smashed 219 sixes thus far. Andre Russell hit 22 of these sixes and it has been a carnage off his willow thus far in the tournament. The Caribbean cricketer is smashing the bowlers to all corners of the park and is in the form of his life. Stuart Broad, though, thinks that there are many odds against the favour of the bowlers.
Are the bowling standards in PSL better than IPL?
One Pakistani journalist took it to Twitter to share his thoughts about Andre Russell’s form. He pointed out that the bowling standards in the PSL are much higher. He brought out a stats comparison about the sixes hit by Andre Russell in the IPL and the PSL. In four IPL matches this year, Russell hit 22 sixes against the 9 sixes he hit across the three seasons of PSL. The journo added that the Jamaican is only playing as per his ‘fee.’
“Bowling standards in PSL are higher… check this comparison of bowling in IPL and PSL … Andre Russell has hit 22 sixes in four IPL matches this year.. in 18 PSL matches across three seasons his tally is just 9! The other factor may be ….. he hit sixes as per his FEE,” he wrote.
Replying to this tweet, Stuart Broad listed the other reasons why the bowling standards in IPL seem low. He came out in favour of the bowlers and felt that the pitches are better and thinks the batsman is batting in better conditions without much of reverse swing.
“Or the pitches are better? Or the grounds are smaller? Or he’s batting in better situations? Or the ball isn’t reversing when he comes in?” wrote the English pacer in reply to the journo’s tweet.
