Sunil Gavaskar feels India's only worry at the moment is Bhuvneshwar Kumar's rusty form

The Brabourne Stadium, known for its batting friendly wicket, proved to be a run-fest in the first innings as local boy Rohit Sharma smashed a brilliant 162. He was joined by Ambati Rayudu in the list of centurions, and the duo propelled the hosts to a mammoth 377. The Windies, however, were no match for the opponents as they were bundled out for a mere 155. Barring a couple of spilled catches, it was a perfect game of cricket for Virat Kohli and his boys. But pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar had to settle with just one success.

The 4th ODI also went on to show that Virat is after all human, and can also walk back to the dressing room after scoring just a handful of runs. But nevertheless, given India’s beefed up top order consisting of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Kohli himself, it is very unlikely that all three will fail on a single occasion. In Mumbai, it was Rohit who decided to enthral his home crowd with what could have been his fourth double hundred.

Meanwhile, India’s no.4 conundrum also seems to be solved as Ambati Rayudu brought up a century, which essentially cements his place in the side. Keeping in mind their World Cup plans, the Men in Blue will look to use the next few ODIs to finalize their strongest XI during the flagship event in England next year. Rayudu looks settled after the consistency he has shown in the ongoing Windies series.

Bhuvi still looking scratchy: Gavaskar

That being said, India could be a tad bit worried with their premier fast bowler’s form. While newcomer Khaleel Ahmed has stepped up to the plate with the opportunities he’s been given, experts believe it’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s form that is a cause of concern.

While praising the left-arm seamer in his Times of India column, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar wrote, “The only worry still is Bhuvneshwar Kumar and he is looking undercooked at the moment. The more he bowls the better it will be.” His upcoming performances will be crucial for India as they travel to Australia and New Zealand from November onwards.

Bhuvneshwar and Jasprit Bumrah have been at the core of India’s pace attack. Their abilities complement each other and in tandem, they form an excellent attack at the death. However, Bhuvi hasn’t been able to back up his Asia Cup performances too well. He went for as many as 70 runs in Pune, while picking up just a single wicket. In Mumbai as well, he was fairly economical, but couldn’t make a telling impact in the wickets column.

India are taking on the Windies in the 5th and final ODI at Thiruvananthapuram to seal the series; the hosts currently lead 2-1.
