Former Indian cricketer and the current head coach of team India, Ravi Shastri is celebrating his 56th birthday on Sunday. The cricketing fraternity posted some remarkable wishes for him on the memorable and joyful occasion. The veteran Indian batsman Suresh Raina also posted a wonderful message on Twitter to wish Shastri on his birthday mentioning his contributions for Indian cricket both as a player and now as a head coach of the national team.

Shastri made his debut for India in 1981 in the Test series in New Zealand and played 80 Tests and 150 ODIs before hanging his boots. Interestingly, the left-arm spinner started his career as a bowler who batted on the tenth position. However, in the later part of his career, he was promoted as an opener, after which he amassed 3830 and 3108 runs in Tests and ODIs respectively. He also scalped 151 Test match wickets and 129 wickets in the limited-overs format.

Post his playing days, Shastri became a popular voice for the sport as he was regarded as one of the best commentators in the World. His famous line came during the final of the 2011 World Cup “Dhoni finishes off in style, a magnificent strike into the crowd, India lifts the World Cup after 28 years” is still an absolute treat to hear for all the cricket fans and experts.

In July 2017, the former team director, Shastri was appointed as the head coach of the national team after the former head coach Anil Kumble resigned controversially. Under his guidance, team India has performed well across the three formats of the game so far.

Raina’s birthday wishes

Raina praised Ravi Shastri for his phenomenal contributions to the Indian cricket both as a cricketer and a coach. “Wish you a very happy birthday, @RaviShastriofc. Your contribution to the Indian team has phenomenal, both as a player and a coach. Have a great one.#TopMan” wrote Raina in his wish for Shastri on Twitter.
