Suryakumar Yadav landed himself into trouble after he retweeted a post on Twitter. His name was missing from the Mumbai team for the Inter-State T20 tournament and the post questioned the same. The right-handed batsman has been asked to appear before the MCA’s managing committee on Tuesday (February 21). As a result of that, his inclusion in the Mumbai squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy Trophy has been withheld.

MCA Joint secretary Unmesh Khanvikar was quoted by ESPNcricinfo saying, “Players are not allowed to comment on selection on social media. We have a managing committee meeting tomorrow where we will discuss what to do. We have called him [to appear before the committee] and have also sought a written explanation. Yesterday, I told him to give the written explanation within 24 hours so he can do that today. The committee will review his written explanation and then we will think what is to be done.”

A similar incident had happened last year when the 26-year-old Suryakumar got away with just a verbal warning from the committee. He had showcased his emotions on social media after Mumbai opener Jay Bista failed to make it to the squad ahead of Mumbai’s clash against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy semi-final.

Khanvilkar also said, “There are only 14 players we have picked. Cricket-wise, there is no problem. He is a good player. Just because of the disciplinary issue, we have withheld his selection, so whatever decision is taken in the managing committee, accordingly we will choose the 15.”

Yadav has never quite kept himself away from controversies in the last few years. His stepping down as Mumbai captain midway through a disappointing 2014-15 season was a major talking point. He was also cautioned by the MCA officials for using of inappropriate language on and off the field which players had complained of.
