Suryakumar Yadav has turned many heads over the years, owing to his heroics with the bat in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Impressed by his performances, the former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram has heaped praises on Yadav. The former cricketer also pinned hopes on the batter to perform well in the T20 World Cup 2021.

Yadav has been consistently scoring huge runs in the IPL and has been one of the pivotal cogs of the Mumbai Indians’ wheel. His splendid performances finally paved his path to the Indian team and he impressed the cricketing fraternity with his show with the willow. Akram thus stated that Yadav can potentially be India’s game-changer in the mega event.

The speedster also shed light on the plethora of shots the batter has under his sleeves. Akram asserted that Yadav plays safe shots and he should continue doing so.

“Suryakumar Yadav will be India’s game-changer. He will change the complexion after the six (Powerplay) overs and I have seen his shots, he was with me (Akram was a mentor) in KKR (back in 2012 and 2014) and now he has improved. What a terrific player he (Surya) has become. He plays safe shots and doesn’t stop, so he should play in that manner only,” Akram told Aaj Tak.

It is a journey and Babar will ultimately touch the heights: Wasim Akram

Akram also opened up on the comparisons between Virat Kohli and his counterpart Babar Azam. According to him, the Indian skipper is one of the greats in the world and Babar Azam is on his way to achieving several milestones. Akram highlighted the Pakistan skipper’s performances and stated that he will ultimately touch the heights.

“Virat is Virat, one of the greats in the world. Babar has just started captaincy but again is a very good player to watch. He is consistent across formats, T20 or ODIs. He is learning the ropes of captaincy as he is a quick learner. It is a journey and Babar will ultimately touch the heights which have been surpassed by Kohli,” said Akram.

India and Pakistan will lock horns with each other to kick start their World Cup campaign on October 24. This is a highly anticipated contest wherein the former has a dominating record against the Men in Green in World Cups.
