T10 League 2017 - Day 2 Round up
Team Sri Lanka failed to have any major impact on the tournament as they managed to lose both their round-robin games.
It was another exciting day at Sharjah as T10 League managed to keep up the entertainment quotient of the tournament high. It was a disappointing day for a few big sides like Punjabi Legends and Team Sri Lanka, who finished last in their respective groups. But they still have a chance to cover up for all that on day 3.
The first match of the day was played between Bengal Tigers and Punjabi Legends. Batting first, Punjabi Legends posted 99 runs on the board courtesy some good cameos from Icon Player Shoaib Malik and Umar Akmal, who notched scored of 30 and 38 respectively.
That was never going to be enough and it was evident from the run chase. Despite losing 7 wickets, the Bengal Tigers somehow squeezed past the Legends and won the game with 4 balls to spare. Anwar Ali was named the player of the match for his 2/25. Hasan Ali’s magnificent rendition of 4/7 went in vain for the legends.
After losing their first match, Virender Sehwag’s Maratha Arabians were desperate for a win. They were up against Team Sri Lanka, who blasted 125 run in their 10 overs. Dinesh Chandimal was the pick of the batters, who scored 37 off just 24 balls and was supported well by Shehan Jayasuriya.
But Rilee Rossouw had other ideas, as he launched a mammoth 6 sixes out of the park en route to an 18-ball 49 and was supported with a good knock from Alex Hales. This helped the Arabians chase down that humongous total on board exactly off the final ball of the innings. Rossouw finished the game with two sixes off the last two balls and deservedly won the Man of the match prize.
Malik’s half-century earns his side their first win
The Kerala Kings were up against Punjabi Legends for the 3rd march of the day. Kerala Kings, batting first, scored a decent 114 runs on the board losing four wickets. Paul Stirling once again shined with a knock of 46 in 29 balls. But Shoaib Malik’s sensational innings was a little too good for the Kings as Punjabi Legends chased the total down in just 9 overs. Malik finished with a 25-ball 60 for the Legends.
Team Sri Lanka failed to have any major impact on the tournament as they managed to lose both their round-robin games. Their second game of the day was against a strong Pakhtoons side. Pakhtoons batting first, posted a decent 111 runs on board losing six wickets. Tamil Iqbal blasted a 27-ball 56 for them.
In reply, Sri Lanka could only manage a paltry 84 runs on the board. Sohail Khan finished with figures of 1/5 and Liam Dawson picked up two wickets in the one over he bowled, which saw Waindu Hasaranga’s effort of 12-ball 31 go in vain. It was a comprehensive victory for Shahid Afridi and his men.
