T10 League 2018: Jonny Bairstow inks a short-term deal with Kerala Knights

Jonny Bairstow made a successful return from injury by slamming a century in the third and final Test match against Sri Lanka in Colombo. England also managed to inflict a historic whitewash on the home side as the their new number three won the Man of the Match award. While the Brits will now return home for an extended period of holiday, Bairstow will travel to the United Arab Emirates to feature in the ongoing T10 League for the Kerala Knights.

He will join his England ODI captain Eoin Morgan and teammate Tom Curran in the Knights’ set-up. The aggressive batsman will also have the stars like Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard by his side. The second round of the tournament is currently in progress and have lost their first game to the Punjabi Legends. The defending champions haven’t played to their potential at the moment and Bairstow’s inclusion will surely make the difference it seems.

Bairstow available for minimum two matches

Jonny Bairstow’s stint with the Kerala Knights could possibly last for only a couple of days. He will join the team on Wednesday and will be straightaway available for selection for their remaining two matches against the Northern Warriors and Bengal Tigers which will be played on November 29 and 30.

Bairstow’s stay will only extend if the team manages to qualify for the playoffs. They are currently at the seventh position in the points table after losing to the legends by a massive margin of 36 runs. Having said that they have champions players in the line-up and if they click when it matters the most, then they might well defend the title after triumphing in the inaugural edition.

Bairstow, meanwhile, will be excited to foray in the newest format for him and it will be interesting to see how he fares. Paul Stirling hasn’t been successful at the top and the England’s limited-overs opener might well open along with Chris Gayle in the next game.
