New Zealand’s decorated seamer Kyle Jamieson is all set to make his T20 Blast debut. Jamieson has been roped by Surrey County Cricket Club for the ongoing 2021 edition of the tournament. The pacer has signed a short-term deal with Surrey after Australia’s Sean Abbott and West Indies Kemar Roach pulled out from the competition due to injury and international duties respectively.

At present, the 26-year-old is essaying his national duties as he is involved in a two-match Test series against England. After the Test series, New Zealand will lock horns with India in the final of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship. Thus, Jamieson will be available for selection in Surrey camp only after the WTC final, scheduled from June 18 to June 22 in Southampton.

It is learned that the right-hander will be available for selection against Middlesex in the T20 Blast match at The Kia Oval on June 25 and will remain with the squad until the final group game. After the game against Middlesex, Jamieson can also play against Hampshire and Somerset.

Playing county cricket is something I’ve always wanted to do in my career: Kyle Jamieson

The Kiwi pacer opened up on his deal with Surrey saying that he is really excited to make his debut in England’s domestic circuit. Kyle revealed that he always wanted to play County cricket as he has heard a lot of stories regarding T20 Blast nights at the Kia Oval.

“I’m really excited to get the chance to play some county cricket after the BLACKCAPS tour. Originally I didn’t think this opportunity would be possible with the schedule this year, but with how things have unfolded it’s great to be able to join Surrey and experience both T20 and first-class cricket,” said Jamieson in an official statement according to Cricbuzz.

“Playing county cricket is something I’ve always wanted to do in my career, so to have the chance to do so now is awesome. I’ve heard a lot of great things about county cricket, particularly T20 Blast nights at The Kia Oval, and can’t wait to take up the opportunity with Surrey to continue to learn and grow whilst trying my best to contribute to the teams’ success,” he added.
