T20 Global League: Pretoria Mavericks reveal team logo
Russell Domingo will take charge as the head coach of the Mavericks in the inaugural season.
The build up to the inaugural edition of the T20 Global League has already begun. The 8 participating franchises have started to reveal their team names and logos. The latest to join the list was the Pretoria franchise. They will be known by the name Pretoria Mavericks in the competition. The official social media handle of the T20 Global League announced the same in their latest update.
Pretoria Mavericks will be led by former national skipper AB de Villiers. De Villiers hails from the city Pretoria and is the marquee player for the franchise. The Maverick cricketer expressed his excitement for the tournament. He remarked that he loves playing at the SuperSport Park.
“Pretoria is a city close to my heart, and close to my family. I love playing at SuperSport Park. I can’t wait for the competition to get underway and the prospect of playing against my teammates and some of the world’s best players is an exciting one and I can feel the anticipation building,” he was quoted as saying by Sport24.co.za.
“The Pretoria Mavericks are ready for the #T20GL challenge this Nov. Their logo represents movement, dimension, speed and aggression,” tweeted the T20 Global League Twitter handle.
Domingo to take charge
In another update, it was revealed that former South African coach Russell Domingo will take charge as the head coach of the Mavericks in the inaugural season. He will be assisted by former Proteas all-rounder Lance Klusener, who will join the roster as the bowling coach. The former South African opener, Neil McKenzie has also been roped in as the Assistant Coach for the team.
“It’s official! The Pretoria Mavericks has launched with @RussellDomingo set to take charge as coach. No doubt it’ll be action all the way!,” the official handle of the league added in another tweet.
