T20 Mumbai League: Ajinkya Rahane, Surya Kumar Yadav fetch top bids

The inaugural edition of the T20 Mumbai League is all set to get underway in the second week of March. The tournament will be the prime tournament for the players of Mumbai to showcase their skills in the shortest format of the game. At the recently held auctions for the league, Indian Test veteran Ajinkya Rahane and domestic giant Surya Kumar Yadav have fetched top bids.

Both the players were picked by Mumbai North and Mumbai North East team respectively for INR 7 Lakh. The two players are set to be the icon players for their respective teams in the T20 Mumbai League this year. The tournament will be played from March 11 and will run on to March 21, when the finals will be played. Interestingly, another Indian veteran, Rohit Sharma, fetched INR 6 Lakh at the auctions.

He was bought by the Mumbai North West side as their icon player. However, Rohit’s participation in the league seems improbable. He will be leading the Indian team in the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka, which will run at the same time as the T20 Mumbai League.. Shreyas Iyer, who has not been named in the Indian squad for the T20I tri-series in Sri Lanka, was bought by the Mumbai North Central side for INR 5 Lakh.

Mumbai South have bought the services of veteran domestic superstar Abhishek Nayar as their icon player. They paid INR 4 Lakh for his services. Among the younger lot, the Indian U19 World Cup winning captain, Prithvi Shaw was bought by the Mumbai North for INR 2.8 Lakh. The reports in News18 have confirmed the names of all the captains, coaches, and mentors of all the teams.

Mumbai North East: Icon player : Suryakumar Yadav (Rs 7 lakh); mentor Lalchand Rajput; coach Atul Ranade.
Mumbai South Central: Icon player: Siddesh Lad (Rs 4 lakh); mentor Vinod Kambli; coach Vinod Raghavan.
