T20 Mumbai League: Here's why Rohit Sharma fetched lesser amount than Suryakumar and Rahane
The inaugural game of this league is all set to be held on March 11 and the final will be played on March 21.
Indian opener Rohit Sharma was bought for Rs. 6 Lakh by Mumbai North West for the upcoming Mumbai T20 League set to be held in Mumbai. Rohit Sharma has been appointed as the Indian skipper for the upcoming Nidahas Trophy and other than India, this elite Tri-series comprising Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be held from March 6-18.
Unfortunately for the North West Mumbai franchise, they might not be having Rohit Sharma to lead their side in the first edition of this league. Each team got to choose their icon player and other major names who were bought by franchises as their icon players were Suryakumar Yadav, Indian middle-order batsman Ajinkya Rahane, Abhishek Nayar, Siddesh Lad, and Shreyas Iyer.
An interesting point to note here is that the likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Suryakumar Yadav bagged a better contract in this League than Rohit Sharma. Despite having all the credentials and reputation to be the most expensive player in the league, Rohit might not spend an awful lot of time with the club this season, maybe not even a single game.
Prithvi Shaw fetches INR 2.8 Lakh
Some other big names in the League are U19 Indian skipper Prithvi Shaw, former Mumbai captain Abhishek Nayar, and pacer Dhawal Kulkarni. Prithvi Shaw went to the Mumbai North for Rs. 2.8 Lakh whilst Dhawal Kulkarni went for Rs. 1.5 Lakh. Abhishek Nayar was chosen as the icon player for Mumbai South, whilst talented youngster Siddesh Lad was the icon player for the Mumbai South Central franchise. Lad and Nayar went for Rs. 4 Lakh each.
The inaugural game of this league is all set to be held on March 11 and the final will be played on March 21. By the time the tournament commences, Rohit will be in Sri Lanka representing the national side and by the final of this tournament is scheduled exactly three days after the end of the Tri-series, which means Rohit might not even play the final given his North West Mumbai side gets there.
