T20 World Cup 2021: Bangladesh reveals jerseys for the tournament
The Tigers are set to start their campaign on Sunday, October 17 with their match against the Kyle Coetzer-led Scotland.
Bangladesh have recently revealed their jerseys for the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. During an event prior to the tournament, the revelations were made. Khaled Mahmud Sujon, who’s served as the director of the national team and Akram Khan, the cricket operation chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, were present during the launch.
Other prominent personalities also graced their presence during the event. Three jerseys were launched, but it’s not known which one they will don during the World Cup matches. The Tigers are set to start their campaign on Sunday, October 17 with their match against the Kyle Coetzer-led Scotland at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground (Ministry Turf 1), Al Amerat in Oman.
Papua New Guinea and hosts Oman are also placed in Group A. The other Group features the Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Ireland and Namibia. Four out of the eight teams will progress to the Super 12s, which are scheduled to get underway on Saturday, October 23.
Bangladesh’s new jerseys
Bangladesh, led by Mahmudullah Riyad, failed to qualify for the main round as they didn’t finish among the top eight teams. However, the Tigers have had a fantastic year in the T20I format. Back in March, the team lost to New Zealand in the latter’s backyard. But from there on, the Tigers changed their fortunes around. They beat Zimbabwe in a three-match series back in July.
Then they beat the Black Caps and Australia at home in five-match series. Riyad’s men won seven out of 10 games to find some form. Mahmudullah also became the country’s most successful skipper in T20Is, surpassing the legendary Mashrafe Mortaza. Last month, Bangladesh named their squad for the World Cup and named Aminul Islam Biplob and Rubel Hossain as their reserves.
However, as per reports, Biplob has returned home due to certain reasons. It means that Rubel remains as the only reserve player for the Tigers. Earlier, Tamim Iqbal also pulled out of the tournament, having last played a T20I way back in January 2020. The likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim remains a fulcrum of the team in the shortest format.
