T20 World Cup 2021: Match 34, Australia vs Bangladesh – 10 best memes of the match
Adam Zampa picked up a five-wicket haul to break the backbone of the Bangladesh batting lineup.
Australia, on Thursday, put their best foot forward in the T20 World Cup 2021. The team, led by Aaron Finch, defeated Bangladesh by eight wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Moreover, the fact that they won by 82 balls to spare meant that they got their net run rate to 1.031, higher than South Africa’s 0.742. The Tigers, meanwhile, ended with five losses on the trot.
Zampa makes hay in Dubai
The Aussie bowlers got the Bangladesh batting by the scruff of its neck right from the outset. After Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood got rid of both openers- Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar- in the first two overs, there was no looking back for the Aussies. Mushfiqur Rahim’s poor run of form in T20Is continued. Mahmudullah Riyad and Shamim Hossain Patwari got starts, but both failed to convert.
Four batters- Liton, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Mahedi Hasan and Shoriful Islam- couldn’t open their accounts. For Australia, Adam Zampa was the standout bowler as he picked up a five-wicket haul and gave away only 19 runs in four overs. Starc and Hazlewood got two wickets apiece. Pacer Pat Cummins bowled three overs without any success. Glenn Maxwell got the prized wicket of Rahim.
Finch powers Australia
The Aussie batters came out with intent in their run-chase. Aaron Finch and David Warner made sure that the Tigers weren’t allowed to get a foothold back into the contest. The duo put on 58 runs for the opening wicket off a mere 30 balls. Finch was the more aggressive of the two as he scored a 20-ball 40. The skipper smashed two fours and four sixes before Taskin Ahmed got rid of him.
Warner, at the other end, looked promising for his 14-ball 18 after which Shoriful Islam castled him. Mitchell Marsh, who was the leading run-scorer in Australia’s T20I series against the Tigers earlier this year, stayed unbeaten on a five-ball 16. The right-hander smashed Taskin for a six over midwicket to seal the fate of the game. The Aussies chased the target of 74 in only 6.2 overs
