The England side dished out an absolute thrashing to their arch-rivals Australia in Match No. 26 of the 2021 T20 World Cup. Chasing a target of 126, the Eoin Morgan-led side demolished the kangaroos with 8 wickets and 50 balls to spare.
Jason Roy and Jos Buttler put on a blistering partnership of 66 runs for the opening wicket. Jason Roy was the first man to be dismissed for 22. However, Roy’s departure gave no respite to the Aussies as Jos Buttler continued to dismantle the Australian bowling attack. The right-hander scored a whirlwind 32-ball 71* for his side to rattle the opposition. Buttler’s innings was filled with 5 fours and 5 sixes.
Dawid Malan failed to get going and was dismissed by Ashton Agar for just 8. However, Jonny Bairstow and Buttler finished the job for England. With this crushing win, England maintain their position at the top of the points table, while Australia is stationed at the 3rd spot.
Australia was disappointing with the bat. The Australian batsmen could not infuse any momentum into their innings. Aaron Finch top-scored for the Australian side, with a 49-ball 44 at the top of the order, as Australia were bowled out for just 125.
Apart from Finch, Ashton Agar scored a run-a-ball 20 as well. Apart from Finch and Agar, no other Aussie batsman crossed the 20-run mark. Chris Jordan picked up 3 wickets for England with the ball. Apart from Jordan, the likes of Chris Woakes and Tymal Mills also scalped 2 wickets apiece.
South Africa beat Sri Lanka in a thriller
Earlier, the South African side beat the Sri Lankan outfit in a roller coaster of a match. The Sri Lankan outfit batted first and scored 142 in 20 overs. Pathum Nissanka played a classic knock, scoring a 58-ball 72 for his team.
Charith Asalanka also contributed 21 runs at a strike rate of 150. Tabraiz Shamsi and Dwaine Pretorius were incredible with the ball and scalped 6 wickets between them.
In reply, Temba Bavuma held the South African innings together. The right-hander scored a composed run-a-ball 46 and was dismissed only off the first ball of the 18th over. And then, came the blitzkrieg from David Miller. The left-hander applied the finishing touches, scoring a 13-ball 23* as South Africa won the match with 4 wickets in hand. Wanindu Hasaranga scalped a hat trick for Sri Lanka.
