With the T20 World Cup in Australia imminent, IPL 2022 had greater implications for the hopefuls more than established players. For some, this was a tournament of redemption, while for others it was a tournament to announce themselves on the big stage. Many players, both Indian and overseas, made a long-lasting impact with their performances.
Ten such individuals stand out, who have not only caught the eyes of fans but also of their national teams’ selectors. Their performances have merited them to be in the conversation for the T20 World Cup where they would be itching to make a mark and help their countries go all the way.
1. Faf du Plessis
Filling the big void left by former India captain Virat Kohli, the evergreen Faf du Plessis once again lived up to his lofty standards, winning the hearts of the RCB fans after leaving the Chennai Super Kings.
RCB’s leading run-scorer with 468 runs including three half-centuries, du Plessis was a stellar leader in RCB’s run to the playoffs.
He had announced his retirement from Test cricket last year in a bid to concentrate on the limited-overs World Cups, and this campaign has further strengthened his case to be a part of the South African squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup.
