T20 World Cup 2022: 5 openers who are in contention to get picked in the India squad for the tournament

1. Shikhar Dhawan

Considered by many as one of the greatest white ball openers of all time, Shikhar Dhawan was ultimately dropped from the T20 setup shortly before the 2021 T20 world cup. This came as a shock for many as Dhawan was performing really well in the Indian Premier League and for team India too.

But for some reason, the BCCI decided to go with Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and Virat Kohli as their top-order batters while leaving Shikhar out of the squad. However, this didn’t help India in any way as they lost both their first two encounters and eventually got eliminated from the tournament at the group stage itself.

But for Shikhar Dhawan, things have been the same as he is once again proving how good of a player he is by performing well for his new franchise Punjab Kings. He is also one of the very few players to make the list of batters who have scored over 400 in the last six IPL seasons. Hopefully, his hard work and dedication can bring him back to the Indian squad for this year’s T20 World Cup which would be beneficial as Dhawan’s experience could play a key role in India winning the trophy for the second time.
