BBL 2024-25 Schedule
The 13th edition of the Big Bash League is all set to begin on December 7 as Brisbane Heat will host Melbourne Stars in the first match of the season at Gabba. Notably, the tournament will see eight teams locking horns against each other, with four of them qualifying for the next round instead of five like it used to happen in previous seasons. Under new guidelines, Cricket Australia has announced that they are cutting down the total number of matches and thus, a lot of changes have been made for the upcoming season.
The knockouts of the upcoming edition will be played in the same manner as Indian Premier League is played as the two teams topping the BBL points table will play the Qualifier 1 and the winner will earn themselves a spot in the finals while the loser will then challenge the winner of Knockout, that will be played between the teams finishing third and fourth in the points table.
The winner of the Challenger (Loser of the Qualifier and winner of Knockout) will qualify for the finals of the competition and take on the winner of the Qualifier, which is slated to take place on January 24.
All the teams will play 10 matches in the league phase. Notably, defending champions Perth Scorchers, who have five titles to their name and are at the top of the BBL Winners List, will play their first match against Melbourne Renegades on Sunday, December 10.
On the other hand, all the teams have already started their preparations as the team management are now busy settling their squad for the upcoming edition. Hobart Hurricanes have extended the contracts of two destructive batters, Ben McDermott and Tim David while Adam Zampa and Sam Harper have already switched sides and more such transfers and switches are expected to take place soon.
