'Take it upon yourself to find a way' - Coach Ricky Ponting's pep talk after DC's narrow defeat against GT

The Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting came up with a motivational pep talk for the players after the team suffered a 14-run loss to the Gujarat Titans in their IPL 2022 clash on April 2. DC have often come up with such interactive sessions in the dressing room to not only encourage the players but to also appreciate their efforts.

After starting their IPL 2022 campaign with a four-wicket win over Mumbai Indians, Delhi faced their first defeat of the tournament against GT, but Ponting has made it clear that they should take one game at a time instead of focusing on overnight results. At the same time, he also highlighted the positives from their previous game.

“When we look ahead to our next challenge, when we get to training next, and when we finally take it upon ourselves as individuals to find a way to get that little bit better, take it upon yourself to find a way and you’ve got all of us coaches here to kind of help you as well”, said Ponting in a video posted by the Delhi Capitals on their official Twitter handle.

“We are going to train smart, we are gonna get prepared for our next challenge. So, well done, the result didn’t go our way, but we’ve so far played what I would think is pretty average cricket. Pretty average cricket so far and we should have won two games. That’s the positive we take out of it,” he added.

After the pep talk, Ponting presented the behind-the-scenes Man of the Match award to Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman. The left-arm speedster was really impressive with the ball in the previous match as he registered figures of 3/23 from his four overs at an economy rate of 5.8.

Delhi would be looking to get back to winning ways when they face Lucknow Super Giants at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on April 7.
