Tamim Iqbal forgets where boundary rope is, makes a hilarious fielding error in a DPL match
The veteran opener did gather the ball cleanly and even shaped to throw it back to the bowler.
Over the years, cricket fans have witnessed several sensational fielding efforts, which have left them in awe. With the players being athletes nowadays, we have seen many magical moments near the boundary ropes where fielders have converted a certain-looking six into a clean and successful catch. This shows the significance of street smartness and the presence of mind in cricket. However, Tamim Iqbal’s fielding effort in his recent outing didn’t exhibit any of these skills.
The veteran Bangladesh batsman made a hilarious fielding error during the Mohammedan Sporting Club vs Prime Bank Cricket Club match in Dhaka Premier League (DPL) 2021. Tamim was fielding at the long-on region during the 14th over of Mohammedan’s innings. In the third ball of the over, Shakib Al Hasan gave himself some room and smashed off-spinner Nayeem Hasan towards long-on.
Tamim Iqbal exhibits blunder near boundary ropes
Iqbal didn’t have to move much to collect the ball, and Shakib wasn’t expected to collect more than one run. The veteran opener did gather the ball cleanly and even shaped to throw it back to the bowler. However, the 32-year-old accidentally stepped over the boundary rope with his momentum and four runs were gifted to Mohammedan Sporting Club. It was a shocking fielding error, and hence, the clip of Tamim’s Iqbal went viral on social media.
Meanwhile, Mohammedan Sporting Club posted 150/8 while batting first at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Opener Parvez Hossain Emon scored a well-paced half-century while Mahmudul Hasan (23), Shamsur Rahman (33) and skipper Shakib (20) chipped in with significant contributions. Left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman was the wreaker-in-chief with the ball, taking a five-wicket haul.
The target wasn’t an enormous one, but Prime Bank Cricket Club batting line-up couldn’t click. Taskin Ahmed and Abu Jayed took wickets at regular intervals as the Anamul Haque-led side never really looked in the contest.
Mohammad Mithun scored the most for his side, 25 runs, while Tamim Iqbal made 20 runs. As a result, the Prime Bank Cricket Club was bundled out for just 123 runs, losing the game by 27 runs. With this win, the Mohammedan side climbed to second place in the points table while Prime Bank Cricket Club remained in fourth place.
