Tamim Iqbal to face punishment for a breach of BPL contract
Director of BCB and disciplinary committee member Mahbub Anam indicated that Tamim might face punishment for his deeds.
In the aftermath of the recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Comilla Victorians’ skipper Tamim Iqbal has come under heavy criticism for delivering negative comments. Making bad indications about pitches and outfield during the BPL, Tamim has been under judgment by disciplinary actions from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
He had to face a hearing to receive his No Objection Certificate (NOC) before departing to Sharjah on Thursday for playing in the first ever T10 Cricket League. However, things are not settled between him and the BCB yet. Director of BCB and disciplinary committee member Mahbub Anam indicated that Tamim might face punishment for his deeds either in monetary form or suspension in the next BPL.
According to bdcrictime, Mahbub Anam said, “His statement about the pitch and outfield during BPL is clearly a breach of contract. The case is, indeed, sensitive. The disciplinary committee talked to Tamim and heard his explanations. Now a final decision in this regard will be taken.”
The minimal punishment that the left-hander can receive for such a violations is a warning; after that, a player might fall under monetary compensation or suspension as the highest possible punishment.
Mustafizur Rahman denied NOC as well
The Bangladeshi board had earlier also refused to give a NOC to Mustafizur Rahman for taking part in the T10 league scheduled to be played in the United Arab Emirates as an injury prevention move.
BCB wanted to be careful about the injury-prone bowler as he has suffered two injury breaks during his two-year career so far. The board doesn’t want to take any risk with Mustafizur, especially with an important series against Sri Lanka coming up shortly,
He returned to competitive cricket after missing the first two legs of the recently-concluded Bangladesh Premier League. He has been recovering from the twisted ankle that saw him miss the limited-overs leg of the South Africa tour in September-October.
