Team India might soon become the No.1 ODI side

India would want to face England in the final and not Pakistan for this aspiration to come true.

What was the most awaited cricket tournament of 2017 is about to end, with only 3 matches left to be played. The ranking points are at stake when the top 4 teams – India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and England progress into the semi-finals starting today. At present, South Africa and Australia are the top 2 ODI sides as per the ICC ODI rankings. But since both couldn’t enter the semi-finals, India have a chance to overtake them in the rankings provided they win the remaining matches.

After India, it is England who stand 4th on the rankings chart. So if the Men in Blue lose to Bangladesh in the semi-final, which is to be played day after, it will be a good opportunity for the hosts, who made it to the finals of the 2013 edition, to rise to the 3rd spot. But if India win the semi-final and also go on to beat England in the finals, they also take the apex position.

In case it is an India v Pakistan final and the defending champions beat the No.8 ranked team in the final, they will reach only the 2nd position.

Here are various permutations for the upcoming matches in the ICC Champions Trophy:

India

  • If lose to Bangladesh in the semi-final, it will finish on 115 points
  • If beat Pakistan in the final, it will finish second on 119 points
  • If lose to Pakistan in the final, it will finish on 116 points
  • If beat England in the final, it will finish on top of the table on 119 points
  • If lose to England in the final, it will finish on 116 points

England

  • If lose to Pakistan in the semi-final, it will finish on 113 points
  • If beat Bangladesh in the final, it will finish on 116 points
  • If lose to Bangladesh in the final, it will finish on 114 points
  • If beat India in the final, it will finish on 116 points
  • If lose to India in the final, it will finish on 114 points

Bangladesh

  • If lose to India in the semi-final, it will finish on 94 points
  • If beat England in the final, it will finish on 99 points
  • If lose to England in the final, it will finish on 96 points
  • If beat Pakistan in the final, it will finish on 98 points
  • If lose to Pakistan in the final, it will finish on 95 points

Pakistan

  • If lose to England in the semi-final, it will finish on 90 points
  • If beat India in the final, it will finish on 95 points
  • If lose to India in the final, it will finish on 92 points
  • If beat Bangladesh in the final, it will finish on 94 points
  • If lose to Bangladesh in the final, it will finish on 92 points
