The Anushka Sharma-starrer ‘Chakda Express’, based on veteran Indian women’s cricketer Jhulan Goswami has created a lot of speculations and expectations among the fans. The movie will be streamed on Netflix and it traces the journey of the legendary cricketer, who has helped women’s cricket in India grow leaps and bounds in her career.

The movie shows how Goswami managed to counter the misogynistic politics to fulfill her dreams of playing cricket for the Women in Blue. The film is produced by Anushka Sharma, and her brother Karnesh Sharma’s Clean Slate Filmz and is directed by Prosit Roy. The teaser of the movie has garnered a lot of likes and comments on various platforms.

It is a really special film, says Anushka Sharma

Earlier, Sharma, also Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli’s wife, expressed her gratitude on being able to live the journey of Goswami, who still plays Test and ODI cricket for the national team.

“It is a really special film because it is essentially a story of tremendous sacrifice. ‘Chakda Xpress’ is inspired by the life and times of former Indian captain Jhulan Goswami and it will be an eye-opener into the world of women’s cricket,” Sharma said in a statement.

“At a time when Jhulan decided to become a cricketer and make her country proud on the global stage, it was very tough for women to even think of playing the sport. This film is a dramatic retelling of several instances that shaped her life and also women’s cricket,” she stated.

Goswami also talked about the challenges she has had to face in order to make a career out of cricket. She also spoke on targeting a batter’s stumps while bowling with full run-up.

“It doesn’t matter if sometimes a man’s accomplishments are placed above your own. It doesn’t matter if the stadiums are empty. When you pull up on to the pitch to bowl, all you see is the opponent holding the cricket bat and the stumps you need to knock out,” Anushka added.

In 12 Tests, 192 ODIs and 68 T20Is, Goswami has picked up 44, 240 and 56 wickets respectively. She is no mug with the bat either, having scored three half-centuries.
