Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar has opened up on Virat Kohli’s poor outings in IPL 2022. Manjrekar highlighted Kohli’s tendency to play shots on the front foot “anyhow” and said that it was a reason for the right-hander’s downfall a couple of times. Although Kohli was playing as a batter for RCB after quitting his captaincy responsibility. he failed to deliver with the bat for the team throughout the season.

Manjrekar advised Kohli to curb the habit of playing shots on the front foot. The former batter also given a reference to Kohli’s dismissal in the second qualifier against Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. He also indicated the flaws in Kohli’s technique and advised him not to ignore them.

To note, this has been the season for Virat Kohli which he definitely would not like to remember as he scored only 341 runs in 16 games at an average of 22.73, with only two half-centuries to his name. He has also been rested for the upcoming limited-overs home series against South Africa next month.

Playing on front foot against a short of length ball cost him his wicket: Sanjay Manjrekar

“Virat wanting to be on the front foot no matter what is not helping his cause. Mental toughness takes you far for sure, but technical issues cannot be ignored completely. Crunch game.. front foot to a short of length bouncing ball cost him his wicket again,” Manjrekar was quoted as saying in ESPNcricinfo.

Kohli’s start against the Royals was good as he hit a gigantic six but he couldn’t convert it into a big knock and got caught by Sanju Samson off Prasidh Krishna in the second over. RCB couldn’t come back strongly in the match after a poor start. Sanju Samson-led Royals have qualified for the finals for the first time after 2008 and will face Gujarat Titans in the clash on May 29 (Sunday).
