The Indian Premier League (IPL) is certainly one of those tournaments which throw certain players into the limelight, be it domestic or overseas. Players tend to get recognised quite a bit if they do well in the IPL. The name (and fame), the adulation and the recognition come naturally once the players start performing.

Alzarri Joseph is latest to experience all this. He made his IPL debut against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The young West Indian quick ripped apart SRH’s batting line-up, taking 6/12. He bowled Mumbai Indians (MI) to a memorable win as they defended 136 against the table-toppers.

Like quite a few stars in modern-day cricket, Joseph came through the Under-19 ranks and made a name through the Under-19 World Cup. He made his first-class debut at the age of 18 back in November 2014 and less than two years later, he made his Test and ODI debut. However, there are quite a few facts that a lot of people might not know about MI’s latest pace sensation.

Hence, here are some facts about Alzarri Joseph.

#1 Wicket-less on First-Class and List ‘A’ debut

Alzarri Joseph made his first-class debut, playing for the Leeward Islands back in November 2014. However, his side went on to lose the game as Joseph returned wicketless. He bowled 11 overs and conceded 47 runs in the first innings while he gave away 36 runs in 5.4 overs in the second essay.

The right-arm pacer’s List ‘A’ debut wasn’t too different either. A couple of months after his first-class debut, he bowled just two overs on debut and conceded 12 runs.

#2 The Under-19 success

2016 was a special year for the West Indies cricket team. They won the World T20, both men’s and women’s and also won the Under-19 World Cup. Alzarri Joseph was a crucial member of the under-19 team. He was their frontline bowler and finished as their leading wicket-taker in the tournament. The Antigua-born fast bowler picked up 13 wickets at an average of 13.76 and an economy of 3.31.
