Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli gave undoubtedly emerged as one of the best batsmen for Team India in the last three to four years. Moreover, the duo forms a formidable combination as they have stitched several record-breaking partnerships and there have been debates going that if Rohit-Kohli combination is best or Sachin Tendulkar-Sourav Ganguly.  Meanwhile, Ian Chappell, the former Aussie cricketer has picked his favourite between the two deadly combinations.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma share a fearsome rivalry when it comes to white-ball cricket. The duo has been piling some big runs for their national team and they are in red hot form with the bat. In the year 2019, Rohit Sharma mustered 1446 runs at an average of 57.84 whereas Virat Kohli muscled 1292 runs at an average of 58.72. These stats are enough to define their calibre.

Ian Chappell opines on the combination of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

On the other hand, Ganguly and Tendulkar dominated some finest bowlers of all time for more than a decade like Wasim Akram, Courtney Walsh, Curtly Ambrose and many more. Ian Chappell said that there is already an argument going on that weather Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are one of the best ODI batsmen of India.

And, they are challenged by none other than Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, who tormented world-class bowlers for more than a decade. The Tendulkar- Ganguly duo opened the innings for their side and was very successful against some of the best bowling attacks.

“In fact, an argument could be mounted that Kohli and Sharma are India’s best-ever one-day batsmen. The obvious challengers would be the feted combination of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, who tormented international bowlers for 15 years. They spent the bulk of that time opening together and they did so against some of the best fast-bowling combinations,” Ian Chappell said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

He also recited the fact that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have brilliant records in the limited-overs. However, Sachin and Sourav didn’t get much time to play in the shorter format.

“The one indisputable argument is, Kohli and Sharma are the best ever white-ball combination. Their combined ODI and T20I records are excellent, with Kohli – averaging over 50 in both formats – at the unbelievable level. To be fair, Tendulkar played very little T20I cricket and Ganguly’s career was finished by the time the format blossomed,” he added.
