The Bad Boys of Cricket- 11 Sex Scandals in Cricket: What’s this? You must be scratching your head in awe while at the same time wondering if you have landed at some other place. But wait a second, if you were thinking that off-field sex scandals are only prevalent in lives of Football players, then this epic list will cause a stir of shock and eureka. Although, cricket is a gentlemen’s game but every coin has an other side too. Today, we will showcase some of the most piercing off-field scandals which were a revelation and took the cricketing world to absolute bewilderment. But, he was the official king of the off- field scandals as well. From kissing his then girlfriend, Supermodel Elizabeth Hurley openly in the stadium during 2011 IPL to his extra martial affairs, this man has done it all. But, all the three players were fined and banned for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy event in Kenya. “I am satisfied that I didn’t commit any mistake but I accept this punishment. Luke Anthony Pomersbach: (Source) The Australian southpaw, Luke Pomersbach was alleged of a sexual assault during his stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2012. He allegedly misbehaved with a US National: Zohal Hamid, at a five-star hotel after which he was arrested by the Delhi Police. Subsequently, he was also suspended by his RCB franchise. The women claimed that the player invited himself for some drinks with the couple and some common friends but later he followed her and misbehaved with her. When her fiancee intervened, Luke allegedly beat him up, she said. However, the case was dropped by the women after both the parties held some negotiations and finally reached a settlement. 6. Shane Warne: (Source) This charismatic leggie on the field was as charismatic off the the field as well. He was fondly called as the “playboy” by many. In 2000, he hit the tabloid headlines when he was caught pestering British nurse Donna Wright with a series of smutty phone calls and voice messages. it is notable that both Warne and Donna were married in their respective lives but that didn’t reprimanded the leggie from his off-field exploits. Later, as a repercussion of this Warne was stripped off his position as the Australian vice-captain. 7. Asad Rauf: If you think only Cricketers are involved in the off-field scandals, then this incident will shock you out of your wits. In 2012, the former ICC elite panel umpire had an affair with a 21 year-old Indian Model Leena Kapoor. The married man and the father of two, Rauf was alleged of sexual abuse and exploitation by the girl. Leena who said that they were involved in intimate relations after the Pakistani Umpire made promises of marriage. “He convinced me that because his religion allowed more than one marriage, he could marry me. He kept saying his family wouldn’t have a problem with his second marriage,” said the 21 year-old girl. Although, Rauf asserted that many girls get pictures clicked with him and that particular girl is using his name for publicity. Eventually the girl dropped the charges. 8. West Indies team: The West Indies team is characterized by their flair and spirit with which they enthrall the spectators. In 2005, West Indies team had performed miserably in the VB series as they lost five matches out of the six matches, in which they played. Their new sponsors Digicel – who had cracked a five-year $20-million deal, made astonishing claims against the players in what was a leaked memorandum. Digicel representative Richard Nowell claimed that he’d heard numerous doors banging and female voices along the players’ hotel corridor well after 1am. “As a former professional cricketer and having toured with England on three occasions, I know men need to have fun while on tour,” Nowell said. “But not at the expense of their performance. Even in Perth, the most crucial time of the tour, one player had flown in a girl from Adelaide.” 9. Eoin Joseph Gerard Morgan: Eoin Joseph Gerard Morgan. Morgan was the subject of a £35,000 blackmail plot by a man claiming to have “sexually based” messages he allegedly exchanged with a former lover, it has emerged. The ECB had informed that 5 years ago, Eoin Morgan was in a relationship with law student Tara Ridgway for some time. He was blackmailed by Tara Ridgway’s present boyfriend Nick Emery who was tracked to Hobart, Australia, within 24 hour after the ECB intimidated Scotland Yard. However, the man apologized and both the parties sorted out the case. 10. Sri Lankan officials: Sri Lanka women Cricket. (© Getty Images) This is the latest sex scandal which sparked many eyebrows as this incident disgraced the Cricket fraternity. The three Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) officials had asked national team’s women players to perform sexual favors to retain their place in the side. SLC said all three officials were shown the door at the end of their contracts last month after an internal inquiry found two of them guilty of sexual harassment and a third of improper conduct. Sri Lanka’s Children’s Minister Rosy Senanayake, who is also responsible for women’s issues, asserted that she has an close eye on the case “It is a shameful incident, We want to put a stop to this kind of behaviour.” Senanayake said She also said that she was closely monitoring the progress of the case and wanted the perpetrators brought to justice. 11. In August 2003, Angela Gallagher, a stripper claimed that the cricketer had been sending her sexual text messages. “It wasn’t just text messaging… they were (Sextremely full-on sexual messages,” said Gallagher. She also passed a polygraph test on the matter.
