List of records that were created by Rohit Sharma in the International cricket in 2017.
2017 was a year to remember for Rohit Sharma despite missing the first half due to the rehabilitation to the injury he suffered last year. Rohit struck a Test century for the first time in four years since his debut series, his first ODI double ton after three years and a T20I century that came at lightning speed. Rohit also got a chance to lead India in 2017 for the first time after a decade in International cricket and made it a memorable one by leading from the front.
List of records that were created by Rohit Sharma in the International cricket in 2017:
1 – In Sri Lanka’s tour of India, Rohit scored a hundred in Test series, a double hundred in the ODI series and a century in the T20I series. Thus, he became the first player in history to score a hundred in all the three formats in a single tour.
1 – Rohit hit more than 30 sixes in International cricket in each of 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Thus, he became the first to hit 30+ sixes in five consecutive calendar years. Brendon McCullum hit 30+ sixes in four consecutive years between 2007 and 2010 and also between 2012 and 2015. Shane Watson also achieved this feat between 2010 and 2013.
2 – Rohit Sharma became the 2nd player after Virender Sehwag to score a double hundred in the ODI format as a captain. Sehwag scored 219 against Windies in 2011 in Indore while acting as stand-in captain.
3 – Rohit Sharma became the first player to hit three double centuries in the List A format. Surrey’s Alistair Brown is the only other player to score multiple double tons in List A cricket.
10 – He became the first Indian to hit ten sixes in a T20I innings when he hit ten against Sri Lanka in Indore. KL Rahul’s eight in the same game are the 2nd most in a T20I innings by an Indian.
12 – Rohit’s 12 sixes during his 208* in Mohali are the 2nd most by a captain in an ODI innings behind AB de Villiers’ 16 against Windies in 2015. Prior to Rohit, no Indian captain hit ten sixes in an innings in any format. Rohit did this feat in both ODI and T20I formats during the home series against Sri Lanka.
35 – Rohit’s 35-ball century is the joint fastest in T20I cricket along with David Miller’s hundred that came in October. This is also the fastest by an Indian in professional cricket surpassing Yusuf Pathan’s effort of 37-ball ton in 2010 IPL.
46 – His 46 sixes in ODI cricket in 2017 are the most by any player in a calendar year and the 3rd most behind AB de Villiers’s 58 in 2015 and Shahid Afridi’s 48 in 2002.
58 – Rohit’s 58 sixes in the ODI format against Australia are the 2nd most by any player against an opponent. Only Shahid Afridi (63 against Sri Lanka) hit more sixes in ODIs than Rohit against an opposition.
65 – Rohit Sharma hit a total of 65 sixes in International cricket in 2017 to break the record of AB de Villiers who hit 63 sixes in the year 2015.
76 – Rohit now holds the record for the most number of sixes hit in International cricket against Australia. He went past Sachin Tendulkar’s 60 sixes against the Aussies this year. His 76 sixes are also the most by any player against an opponent.
