The Best of 2017: Top 5 all-rounders for the year
All-rounders have a huge role to play in a team in modern-day cricket as they add balance to the squad.
4. Ben Stokes (1189 runs and 32 wickets)
Even if the list does not suggest his value to any team, the English all-rounder was the best all-rounder of the year.
After playing for the first nine months, the all-rounder was axed from the national team just before the Ashes. After delighting the selectors with his extensive IPL performance, Stokes played a good hand in England’s series victory over South Africa. He showed his batting prowess in the 3rd Test against the Proteas, where he scored 112 to lead England to a Test victory. Further, Stokes played a big part in England’s series win over West Indies before he was arrested mid-way through the series.
In the ODI format, the left-handed Stokes scored 616 runs in just 13 innings, with a stunning average of 61.60 while managing to have a strike rate of above 100. With the ball, he picked up 14 wickets managing to become England’s best all-rounder. In the Tests though, he has amassed 527 runs at an average of 44, picking up 16 wickets in the process.
