Former Indian opening batsman Gautam Gambhir believes that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should have handled the issue of Rohit Sharma injury better, and they didn’t need to involve a lot of people. India’s opening batsman Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the white-ball series against Australia after he suffered a hamstring injury during the just-concluded 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The batsman is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to achieve full fitness. Rohit was originally scheduled to feature in all the four Test matches against Australia, however, it is speculated that he has been ruled out of the first two Test matches owing to strict quarantine rules in Australia.

This matter aggravated when a few days back Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli  revealed that he has no clarity over Rohit’s injury. Kohli stated that he expected Rohit to board the flight with the Indian team and doesn’t know why he went to NCA. The Indian skipper had slammed the Indian board for lack of information on the particular issue.

After this statement by Virat, it is reported that BCCI conducted a conference call among all the concerned people and made them aware about Rohit’s injury. It was also revealed that Sharma’s father was diagnosed with Covid-19 and he had to fly back to Mumbai to be with his ailing father. However, as Rohit’s father was in a better condition, he left to NCA and BCCI is trying to make the arrangements for his travel to Australia before the commencement of Test series

Speaking on his whole fiasco, veteran opening batsman Gautam Gambhir opined that the authorities could have easily handled this matter if there would have been proper communication since only the head physio, head coach, and chairman of selectors were to be involved in the injury case.

“The Rohit Sharma situation could’ve been handled pretty easily since there wasn’t any need for too many people to get involved. Only the head physio, head coach and chairman of selectors were to be involved in the injury case. Had there been clear communication with the 3, it would’ve been enough. Of course, Virat Kohli were to get updated at every step through Ravi Shastri,” Gambhir said on Star Sports show Cricket Connected
