England and India are up against each other in the ongoing highly-anticipated pink-ball Test of the four-match series at Motera Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. The toss went visiting skipper Joe Root’s way and he elected to bat first. The first innings saw England getting bowled out at a paltry total of 112 runs as India’s spinner Axar Patel bamboozled the opposition batsmen to pick as many as six wickets.

With just 112 runs on the board, the only way left with England was to quickly pick wickets towards the end of Day 1 during the twilight phase. The visiting nation was completely charged up as they made many appeals which were turned down by the third umpire. One of the major highlights of India’s innings on Day 1 was Stokes claiming to complete the catch of Shubman Gill while standing in the second slip.

However, the third umpire thought otherwise as he believed that the ball had touched the grass. In another incident, a quick stumping by Ben Foakes didn’t result in a wicket as Rohit Sharma had grounded his foot at the right time. England seemed visibly upset with both the incidents as they argued that the third umpire didn’t take enough time to come to a conclusion.

Wasim Jaffer mocks Zak Crawley

England’s opening batsman Zak Crawley echoed similar sentiments during his virtual press conference after Day 1 as he termed both the incidents frustrating. “Yes, it was very frustrating as we were behind in the game and we needed that 50-50 to go our way. And it when in their way today. It is frustrating as we desperately want to win and it doesn’t help in our chances of winning. Hopefully, we play better tomorrow and don’t require that 50-50,” said Crawley during the virtual press conference.

The accusations towards the third umpire by Crawley didn’t go well with former Indian cricketer and batting coach of Punjab Kings, Wasim Jaffer as he indirectly trolled the opener for crying over the spilt milk. Jaffer, who is known for his wit and humour, posted a picture of a Titanic on his official Twitter handle and took a sly dig at visitors saying, “*The Titanic has sunk* Some people: How can you be so sure the Titanic has sunk without looking at it from all angles? #INDvsENG”
