‘There are a lot of uncertainties’ – MS Dhoni not sure of his participation in IPL 2022
Dhoni has been woefully out of form with the bat in IPL 2021.
In what can be called another significant statement from MS Dhoni, the Chennai Super Kings captain has cast doubts over his participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Although CSK have been on a roll this season, Dhoni has been woefully out of form with the bat. In 13 matches so far, he has scored mere 84 runs with his average strike rate being below 15 and 100 respectively.
These numbers are far from impressive and it would be interesting to see if the CSK franchise decides to retain him. Notably, a mega auction is set to take place ahead of the next season. Hence, franchises would be allowed to retain just a few players. Moreover, two more teams are set to come in the picture – making IPL a ten-team event.
Highlighting all these facts, Dhoni said his participation next year is not certain. The 40-year-old made the major statement during the toss session of CSK’s last league-stage game against Punjab Kings at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
We have to wait for retention policies and other guidelines: MS Dhoni
“Well, you can see me in yellow next year. But whether I will be playing for CSK? There are a lot of uncertainties around it for a simple reason that we have two new teams coming up. We don’t know the retention policy,” Dhoni said.
“We don’t know how many foreigners, Indian players we can retain, the money cap that every player will be cutting from the kitty. So there are a lot of uncertainties. Unless the rules are in place you can’t really decide that. So we will wait for it to happen and hopefully it will be good for everyone,” he added.
Notably, Dhoni, in a recent interaction, had expressed his desire to feature in IPL 2022 and play his farewell game in Chennai.
“When it comes to farewell, you can still come and se play me for CSK and that can be my farewell game. So, you will still get that opportunity to bid me farewell. Hopefully, we will come to see Chennai and play my last game over there and we can meet fans there,” Dhoni had said while interacting with fans in a virtual interaction arranged by India Cements on Tuesday (October 5).
